A piece of solid music, especially composed for REspace based on live recordings carried out in the production workshops in Verano Brianza.

During the recording session the sounds of the most important tools used in the manufacturing process were individually collected: from the motor of the saws to the leather cutter, from the noise of the drying machine starting up to the compressed air guns.

The composer subsequently selected and sampled the recordings, treating them as musical instruments in their own right.

The composition was structured into a suite of evocative phases, with rhythms sculpted out by overlays and harmonies flowing from their musicality.

Luciano Berio was once asked to describe what music was. His reply was: “music is everything that is listened to with the intention of listening to music“.

Piece of concrete music, specially composed for Respace, on the basis of material recorded live in the laboratories of production in Verano Brianza.

The recording session took place by collecting, one by one, the sounds of the most important tools used in the manufacture: from the engines of the saw band, to the cut of the leather, from the start of the dryer,to the compressed air guns.

In a second time, the composer has selected and sampled the audio materials, treated then as musical elements variously processed.

The composition was structured into a suite of evocative episodes, with rhythms and combinations dictated by the musical sensibility.

One day somebody asked to Luciano Berio what music is. And the answer was: “Music is all that is heard with the intention to listening music.“
